The more promi\u00adnent vol\u00adcanic for\u00adma\u00adtions in Sant Joan les Fonts include <strong>Puig Aiguane\u00adgra<\/strong> and <strong>Can Repas\u00adsot<\/strong>, located south of the town.<\/p>\n<p>Sant Joan les Fonts has its ori\u00adgins back to the 9th cen\u00adtury, but its first stand\u00ading mon\u00adu\u00adment, the <strong>medieval bridge<\/strong>, was built around the 12th cen\u00adtury. Another inter\u00adest\u00ading place is <strong>Estada Juviny\u00e0<\/strong> an old knight\u2019s house and mill built in the 11th cen\u00adtury and one of the bet\u00adter pre\u00adserved exam\u00adples of civil\u00adian medieval con\u00adstruc\u00adtions in Cat\u00adalo\u00adnia. The <strong>Monastery of Sant Joan les Fonts<\/strong> is also worth a visit: con\u00adstructed in Romanic style in the medieval ages, it has been reformed many times and some of the struc\u00adtures date back to the 18th century.<\/p>\n<p>How\u00adever the most inter\u00adest\u00ading site to visit in Sant Joan les Fonts is <strong>Mol\u00ed Fondo<\/strong> (\u201cDeep Mill\u201d): an old paper mill ruins next to three well-\u200bdefined lava set flows in a breath\u00adtak\u00ading land\u00adscape by the Flu\u00advi\u00e0 River. In 1972 it was listed as Mon\u00adu\u00adment of National Interest.<\/p>\n<p>From the main wall, you can well observe the two sec\u00adtions con\u00adsti\u00adtut\u00ading the build\u00ading: the 12th cen\u00adtury tower and the rest of the house dated from the 14th cen\u00adtury. A water chan\u00adnel is sur\u00adround\u00ading the tower, which back in the 13th cen\u00adtury was used to power the machin\u00adery of the flourmill.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-350\" src=\"https:\/\/masmolera.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/estada-juvinya.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/masmolera.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/estada-juvinya.jpg 600w, https:\/\/masmolera.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/estada-juvinya-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h3 style=\"border-bottom: 1px solid #fff;\"><em> A pedes\u00adtrian itin\u00ader\u00adary:<\/em><\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p><strong>\u201cTRES-\u200bCOLADES ROUTE\u201d BASALT CLIFF IN SANT JOAN LES FONTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The walk goes along an inter\u00adest\u00ading area of basalt cliffs formed as the result of the cool\u00ading of streams of lava com\u00ading from dif\u00adfer\u00adent vol\u00adca\u00adnoes. There are also river\u00adside forests with species of high botan\u00adi\u00adcal value and some stand\u00ading exam\u00adples of 19th cen\u00adtury indus\u00adtrial archi\u00adtec\u00adture by the riverbank.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MOL\u00cd FONDO \u2013 3 km from Mas Molera<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here you can see three solid\u00adi\u00adfied streams of lava. The old\u00adest one com\u00ading from the vol\u00adca\u00adnoes of Batet and is 600.000 years old. The sec\u00adond one, that forms the basalt mosaic, has an unknow ori\u00adgin and was formed 150.000 years ago, and the youngest one (comes from the Gar\u00adri\u00adnada vol\u00adcano and is about 120.000 years old.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EL BOSCARR\u00d3<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>El Boscarr\u00f3 is a for\u00admer basalt quarry that stopped its works at the begin\u00adning of the 20th cen\u00adtury. Basalt results from cool\u00ading of streams of lava and is a hard, iso\u00adlat\u00ading and corrosion-\u200bresistant stone that has been exten\u00adsively used for paving stones. Dur\u00ading the cool\u00ading process of lava, basalt takes dif\u00adfer\u00adent shapes, like prism and lens. Long cen\u00adturies of ero\u00adsion have uncov\u00adered the cliffs of Font\u00adfreda now turned into a resort area. Beyond this point, the itin\u00ader\u00adary goes across the river along a stone pas\u00adsage and runs some meters by the left bank to go back, later, to the right bank.<br \/>\nAccess: The itin\u00ader\u00adary starts at the Pla\u00e7a Major of Sant Joan les Fonts.
